Earlier this week a new website was brought to my attention. Now I realize there are plenty of pop culture sites out there such as FRED, NeedCoffee, and Pop Syndicate but this one is going to bloom into another amazing site to compare with the others. For those out of the loop this new site is The Website of Doom!

Content wise the site has a previously mentioned podcast, Riding in Cars with Boys, two comics, and articles. As I said before Riding in Cars with Boys manages to pull off the gimmick based podcast perfectly. The other nice part is that this finally gives the guys a permanent home without having to change subscriptions on iTunes.

The comics contain plenty of surprises. The first is that Hands Down, a comic featuring some of the wildest internet characters, has jumped from FRED to Doom! The comic is pretty funny and from what I understand is only promised to get better. Also in an earlier strip SHSOB’s logo might have gotten slipped in (here’s a hint: read them all). The other comic is Sam Legion. This one is just starting off and seems to be set in space, but that might be a misconception. Based on the rest of the site only thing that will happen with this comic is that you’ll be on the ground floor of awesome. The only thing I might suggest here is besides a previous and next option for the pages, maybe being able to jump to the first page for new readers.

Finally, the articles so far appear to be focused on pop culture of the comic variety. Now this might be due to a limited number of posts (as in one as of now) or how many people will actually be writing the articles. I’ll go ahead and warn them though that having just one person write can become cumbersome on that person if a schedule is being maintained.

Once again at least give the website a look see. I’m sure it is still in the development stage so if you see something amiss I know they would be happy to hear as long as you’re not being mean about it.

Combining two of the greatest things, cars and podcasts, these guys fill the void of traveling podcasts. Riding in Cars with Boys, hosted by Michael Harris, Kasey Sullivan and sometimes DJ, is a podcast about pop culture. I know my first sentence made it seem like it might be about travel, but no not the case. The real meaning and thought behind the podcast is actualy very nice as Mr. Harris explained it.

We basically figured that since we spend so much time in the car talking, it would be the best place to record. We drove around 100 miles a week just talking. We recorded because we wanted to remember this time of our lives, and that evolved into a podcast. – Michael Harris

Most of the episodes involve a stop at a comic shop but there are other destinations as well, such as Sonic. The stops where they leave the car is filled with music. While the music is copyrighted, it is not just the average everyone has heard kind of music. The guys have played music from Jackie Chan’s albums, almost to an obsessive level. Now the good news is this obsession is contagious as the music is very catchy, even if I can’t understand it.

Quality wise it is amazing for being in a moving car on a laptop. In fact except rare occasions it is not even noticeable that they are in a moving car. In fairness most of these occasions involving them talking about other drivers. This is not to say sound is perfect because often times if there is a guest they are clearly in the backseat and not as audible.

Diverse topics and conversations of intrigue this is easily going to be a podcast that tops any other driving one. In fact this one will rank with the best studio style ones as well.
